Description
Sun Sensitive Paper encourages an interest in the photographic process using only sun, water, and a bit of imagination.
The light sensitive paper works because its surface is coated with chemicals that change colour when exposed to UV light from the sun. Objects placed on the paper block the light, so those areas remain pale, while the exposed areas turn a deep blue. Rinsing the paper in water washes away the unreacted chemicals, “fixing” the image and leaving behind a white silhouette against a blue background. Try using Jacquard Solarfast Transparency Film as an alternative to 3-dimensional or physical objects. Create images on your computer, print out on to the film and place over the light reactive paper. Follow directions as mentioned below. Wait for the reaction to occur.
Place a fern, flower, or other object on the special paper and set it in the sun briefly approx 3-7 minutes. Then rinse the paper in water and watch as a beautiful long lasting image appears! Try working back into the surface with coloured pencils, watercolour pencils or inks.
