Description

Schmincke Coloured Masking Fluid is ammonia-free, comes in a blue colour for visibility. It is gentle on paper and is easy to remove, often without tearing the paper’s surface. Its synthetic formula is less harsh than traditional latex-based fluids, providing cleaner lines and a better user experience.  Use it in a removable coloured masking fluid bottle/pen form for watercolours; it is especially good for finer details. Also available Molotow Masking fluid in traditional pen format or NAM masking fluid. Or try using painters masking tape for masking out areas with straight edges and large sections.

Key advantages:

• Ammonia-free and low odour: Unlike many latex-based masking fluids, Schmincke’s formula uses a synthetic resin dispersion, making it ammonia-free and less pungent.
• Visible colour: The blue colour makes it easy to see where you’ve applied it to ensure complete coverage. This also helps with removal later.
• Gentle on paper:  Praised for its ability to remove cleanly without damaging the paper. This is even on delicate surfaces that are often torn by other masking fluids. It adheres well enough to protect the paper but doesn’t stick too aggressively.
• Versatile application: Apply with a brush, a dip pen, or from a convenient applicator pen for different levels of detail.
• Easy to remove:  Rub off easily with a clean finger or a rubber cement pickup once the paint is dry, revealing crisp white space.
• Using for fine lines:  Thinned slightly with water, the fluid is then ideal for achieving very fine lines, making it suitable for detailed work.

Considerations:

• Application and removal timing: While it’s designed to be gentle, it’s still best to remove masking fluid promptly after the paint dries. As a precaution, always remove masking fluid within 2 days to prevent staining or damaging the paper fibres.
• Paper compatibility: Always test on a small area first, as soft, unsized papers can still be susceptible to damage with masking fluid.
