Description
Oil Sketch Paper features a linen texture and a special treatment that makes it ideal for use with oil paints and oil pastels. Use it for practicing, planning, and creating oil and acrylic sketches. The paper is treated with a retardant to prevent oil and acrylic paints from bleeding through. This works to provide a surface that mimics canvas and preserves the integrity of the paper fibres and pigment. It has a canvas-like texture, and is a more affordable alternative to canvas. It’s ideal for beginners, experimentation, and quick studies like colour charts or concept development for larger pieces. Available in two sizes, 430x610mm and 610x860mm, also available Oil Sketch Pads in A5, A4, A3 and A2. For a more robust alternative use the Reno or Fredrix Canvas Pads
Key Uses of Oil Sketch Paper:
- Practice & Studies: Develop ideas, practice techniques, create colour charts, and make preparatory sketches for larger works.
- Portability: Because the paper is lighter and easier to store/transport than canvas, it is perfect for painting outdoors (en plein air).
- Experimentation: Lower cost makes it ideal for trying new methods or media like oil pastels, acrylics, or oil sticks without fear of wasting expensive canvas.
- Texture: Its canvas-like texture (often linen-treated or embossed) helps with paint adhesion and blending.
- Convenience: Pre-sized and treated to prevent oil soak-through, eliminating the need for priming like traditional canvas.
Benefits:
- Cost-Effective: Use as a Cheaper alternative to canvas, allowing for more freedom.
- Versatile: Handles thick paint or thin washes and allows for fine details that canvas might miss.
- Easy Storage: Roll or cut to size.
