The Large Pottery Loop Tool set of 3 are steel shapers that are used to refine the shape and to control the wall thickness on wheel thrown pieces and sculptures. The loop tool (sometimes called a ribbon tool) features a broad, sharp, steel loop attached to a wooden handle. Use it for trimming the base of wheel-thrown pieces, hollowing out thick hand-built sculptures, and carving away large ribbons of clay efficiently.

The Large Pottery Loop Tool specific uses in pottery include:

• Trimming the Foot: Use to carve away excess clay from the bottom of bowls and cups on the pottery wheel. Shape the bottom to create a stable “foot” and refine the overall weight.
• Hollowing Solid Clay: Carve out the inside of large, solid hand-built sculptures (such as animal figures or busts).  This ensures they dry evenly and are safe to fire in the kiln.
• Roughing and Shaping: The large surface area allows you to quickly remove bulk sections of stiff or leather-hard clay.
• Texture and Design: Use to carve sweeping, fluted textures into the sides of vases or vessels
