Derivan Pouring Medium is a clear product that when applied to a surface or as a paint additive will automatically spread and create a smooth, glossy finish with minimal surface texture. It is ideal for high gloss thick varnishing, pouring and marbling techniques. Apply with a brush, palette knife or Refillables containers. Can be tinted with Derivan Acrylics or Derivan Inks.

To use Derivan Pouring Medium, mix with acrylic paint (around 1 part paint to 3 parts medium, adjusting for opacity/transparency) to thin it and create flow. Then pour the mixture onto a level surface, tilting or swirling to manipulate patterns. Use techniques like dirty pours or swipes for marbled effects, ensuring your surface is level and letting it dry for a glossy, textured finish.

Prepare Your Surface:

• Ensure your canvas or surface is completely level to prevent paint from running off.

Mix Paint & Medium:

• Combine acrylic paint with Derivan Pouring Medium (often called Spreader Medium) in separate cups for each colour.
• A good starting ratio is 1 part paint to 3 parts medium, but adjust: more paint = more opaque; more medium = more transparent.
• Mix slowly to avoid air bubbles, or vigorously if you want cells quickly (using Spreader Medium).

Layer Colours (Dirty Pour):

• Pour your mixed colours one by one into a single cup, layering them without stirring (e.g., white last).
• Flip the cup onto your canvas, wait about 60 seconds for paint to settle, then lift.

Manipulate the Pour:

• Tilt the canvas gently to spread the paint and create movement.
• Use a paint knife to swirl colours or create patterns (swipe technique).

Let It Dry:

Allow your finished piece to dry completely, appreciating the glossy, smooth finish.
