To use mix the fixative with acrylic paint (usually 1 part fixative to 1-2 parts paint), apply to fabric (like cotton, linen), let it dry completely (ideally 24 hours), then heat-set with a dry iron on the reverse or with a tea towel over the design for about 3 minutes to make it permanent and wash-fast.

Step-by-step Guide for Derivan Fabric Fixative:

Prepare Your Fabric & Paints:

• Use a clean, dry fabric (cotton, linen, etc.). Stretch it over a card to remove wrinkles.
• Test the fabric’s absorbency first.
• Mix Derivan acrylic paint with Fabric Fixative. A common ratio is 1 part Fixative to 1 or 2 parts paint, adjusting for desired thickness. Mix well.

Apply the Paint:

• Apply the mixture with a brush, sponge, or airbrush.
• Avoid thick, textured areas that might crack.

Dry the Paint:

• Let the painted design dry completely, which can take 2-5 hours. For best results, wait up to 24 hours before heat-setting.

Heat-Set (Cure):

• Set your iron to its highest setting, without steam.
• Place a dry tea towel over the design or iron on the reverse side of the fabric.
• Iron continuously for about 3 minutes, keeping the iron moving to avoid scorching.
