The main benefit of using 640gsm or 850gsm watercolour paper is its superior ability to handle wet techniques. Because of the extra weight of the paper it resists buckling, warping, and “cockling”. This extra-heavyweight paper is ideal for artists who use a lot of water, work in many layers, or perform techniques like scrubbing, scratching, and lifting.  It offers excellent durability, strength, and allows for more forgiving and corrective work. While more expensive, its rigidity makes it suitable for large-format work and mixed media applications, as it can often be used without stretching. These papers are extremely dense, for a lighter weight but still durable paper try the Arches 300gsm Paper.
