Description

2mm Clutch Pencil with a traditional blue barrel, chrome grip, pocket clip and lead pointer. Replacement leads available in 3 Grades and a non print blue that does not photocopy. The 2mm Clutch pencil has quite a large lead compared to Micro Pencils or Mechanical Pencils. Try using the Staedtler 777 with a .5mm lead or the Staedtler 775 Mechanical pencil with various thickness for more detailed intricate work.

Use of the Clutch Pencil

A clutch pencil, also known as a lead holder, is primarily used for technical drawing, drafting, and art. It holds thicker leads that are suitable for creating strong lines and shading. Unlike standard mechanical pencils that push lead out, clutch pencils release the lead with a clutch mechanism. This aims at allowing the user to manually control how much lead extends. A built-in sharpener or pointer is included for shaping the lead tip.

Uses for clutch pencils:

• Technical drawing and drafting: Thicker leads, often 2mm and larger, provide more durability and stability when used with drafting tools like triangles and rulers.
• Art and sketching: They are excellent for creating expressive lines and shading due to the lead’s thickness and availability in various hardness grades.
• Marking: They are useful for builders and drafters who need to make thick, bold marks on surfaces.

Key features and benefits:

• Thick lead: Holds leads that are much thicker than standard mechanical pencils, which makes them ideal for drawing and shading.
• Lead control: A button on the end releases a clutch, allowing you to manually extend the lead to the desired length.
• Sharpening: Many models have a built-in lead pointer or sharpener, often located in the end cap, to create a fine, sharp point when needed.
• Durability: The lead is less likely to break compared to the thin leads in traditional mechanical pencils.
• Comfort: They often have an ergonomic grip and a balanced weight, making them comfortable for long drawing or drafting sessions.
