Description

Langridge Impasto Medium is a clear gel medium, add it to oil colours to create extra body without altering the colour. It is incredibly thick with a high oil content and therefore must adhere to the fat over lean rule. This enables it to hold peaks and thick strokes made with a brush or palette knife. Apply it with a palette knife making it ideal for the impasto technique. The medium is thixotropic, meaning it becomes looser for mixing but sets up immediately after being applied, preventing slumping. What it’s used for:

• Adding body and thickness: Add to oil colours to increases the body, making them thicker. This also makes them more suitable for techniques that require heavy paint application.
• Maintaining colour integrity: Mix the clear gel with oil paints without changing their colour or dulling their brilliance.
• Holding peaks and brushstrokes: It is formulated to hold the texture of brush or palette knife marks, so they remain visible on the surface.
• Speeding up drying time: Used to help oil paint layers dry faster than they would on their own, though it still has its own drying time.
• Extending paint: Use it to extend the volume of the paint while maintaining its consistency and colour.
